Memorial Day and Cal 21 re-naming on Bayou Chico

Tom Vandiver2011-05-28 10:47 UTC
Yes! We always have a "Traditional" Memorial Day gathering of family, friends and neighbors. I fly the Stars and Stripes from mast top on Satori, our Cal Cruising 46 and we begin by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, we honor our veterans, this year our senior vet is 92 year old Retired Master Chief, Jim Landis, USN who was wounded at Pearl Harbor, but recovered and fought in WWII, Korea & Viet Nam. Anyone who wishes may give a short patriotic speech. Then we say Grace and proceed with the festivities. So, any of you Cal Boaters around the "Redneck Riveria" come on over to the BSH on Bayou Chico and join us, Monday afternoon, from 2PM on. We are also conducting John Vigor's, Interdenominational Boat Denaming Ceremony for Craig's new to him Cal 21. Then we christen it with the new name and a splash of bubbly. On the day, OBL was taken out, I put our Nation's Colors on our flag pole out front and am flying it one day for each FDNY Firefighter killed in the Twin Towers. May God Bless America and her veterans! Wish I could be there, Tom. It's always a good occasion. Sorry I have to miss it. I'm flying our flag while docked in Savannah this weekend. My best to all! And give Miss Bobbi a hug. She works her tail off for these events to great effect. Mike M. On 5/28/2011 6:47 AM, Tom Vandiver wrote: > > > Yes! Tom, Congratulations on your ceremony. Since I saw in the news that the Blue Angels have been grounded for accidentally flying dangerously low during an air show, did you have the traditional formation fly over of the Blue Herons and Pelicans? Must be quiet now without all the young men wandering around in their spic and span ice cream sales outfits (been there, done that). Lots of fond memories! Memorial Day

Listees, A sacred day, when we remember all those who have given their all. If you served you know the drill, you remember those times and your buddies. Some of us lost friends in combat. I was lucky, my AFSC kept me far from that, but when you say "I do", you could be there, so you just feel a little guilty that you didn't go and your buddy did. Makes it all that more important to remember and honor those who gave that last full measure of devotion. Regards, David Dobbs
