Howdy y'all, just finished a heck of a negotiation on a homebuilt cruiser. Gonna have to call Tom or someone local that has knowledge of Volvo Pentas. The motor runs great, Throttle lever is a bit dicey, anyways, Fort Walton checking in, there be pirates here. I surely hope that '61 is happy. That was the fastest vessel I have never sailed, yet. She is a Forsman, Jim Forsman is a builder and just ace Carpenter that lived and worked on as well as built vessels in NW Florida. She is a one off custom but follows the lines of Alberg, Sparkman Stephens, Lapworth and Falsed designs, is just a nice sea going sloop that is well balanced and proper;ey fitted. As far as Model, Forsman Sloop is on the title, so I guess Forsman is the Design, Builder and Architect. She is a sweet vessel underfoot and on seas. She is no racer, by any means, she is a coastal cruiser. One off. And I am happy with her, but she needs the standard strip and varnish to shine, so let the work begin. I love my job. Sorry Joe, I kinda figured that but those papers were not in hand. They are now. Volvo MD11C, 23 HP. the vessel was re-powered in 2008. We are very familiar with that old Volvo engine. My comments - Volvo parts are VERY expensive, and MD11C parts are scarce. For example, the fuel injection pipes are not available from Volvo, same situation for the transmission. [ only a Volvo MS transmission will fit your engine ] The MD11C engine is old technology, designed in the late 1950's / early 1960's [ we call them rock crushers ] and run rough, loud, and stinky. The new diesel engines are MUCH lighter, smaller, smoother running, and fuel efficient, with minimal exhaust emissions. If your engine is raw water cooled [ most are ] it is a very poor candidate for rebuilding, as it will crumble upon disassembly. Most die by eventually rotting out internally, allowing salt water to mix with the lube oil. That's death for any engine. She has a deep keel also, is a race/cruiser sorta thing, is a right fun and smart vessel, the one you saw on the internets was the one I talk of, J Forsman built her, she was launched in 1982. She is pretty. From what I gather on her from local stories, she is proven as she rode out a few canes on a bahama set. I wanna race her, but I gotta do something with the decks to make her right and proper. Joe, Thank you, I have 2 complete trans that were part of the deal, I have one casing for parts, she was rebuilt by a guy/shop in Canada in 2008, complete.
