The same happened on our Cal 29. The rub rail didn't come all the way off; I
think I went up and lashed it to the pulpit to keep it from going under the
hull. And this was on the original rub rail; we had taken it off for
painting the topsides and then put it back on again. So it wasn't a question
of it not being stretched enough. A few stainless sheet metal screws up from
the bottom into the flange seems like cheap insurance to me.
