Thanks Mike. When the wind builds in the Santa Barbra Channel we get 4-6 ft swell. Above 25 knots we can have 6-9 ft plus. Depends how much it is blowing outside the islands. I have a S 2 but as you state it is really rolly down wind in a 4-6 ft swell, even twinged down. I am looking for something more pole forward and with less shoulders. For those less than 150 degree apparent days. Randy Michael D <md… [at] yahoo.com> wrote: It is my experience that a 1.5 oz spinnaker is typically smaller than a .75 oz spinnaker. Randy, Have you considered an Asymmetrical (Code 0) Spinnaker? We fly ours on a beam reach, and if the wind is light enough we can take it up to a close reach. In some cases we pole back the tack line to sail deeper than we could otherwise. The boat/asymmetrical is much easier to control in heavier air and following seas. Here in FL, we rarely get rollers. Seas are steep, short-period waves, and I really dislike using our tri-radial in heavy air on a downwind run. Some of my crew thinks it is exciting, but helming in those conditions is not my idea of fun. I have Chinese Broached before, throwing two crew overboard at the same time. Fortunately, no one was injured, quickly recovered, and nothing was broken. Michael, are you tacked to the stem or a pole. If tacked to a stem how deep is deep. Randy Michael D <md… [at] yahoo.com> wrote: Randy, Have you considered an Asymmetrical (Code 0) Spinnaker? Re: [Cal_Boats] used sails -Edwin

Edwin, I probably should have said "Chinese Gybe", as the incident is described on page 6 of the PDF at http://www.hisc.org/Inlet-Outlet/2011/June2011InletOutlet.pdf Basically, we were sailing under symmetrical spinnaker, near dead down wind, starboard tack, following seas, under building conditions. Each time we got bigger wave sets, they would try to force our direction to port. I would have to counter the motion with moderate to hard starboard rudder. Eventually, my luck ran out. We gybed, throwing one crew overboard. As Magic went over hard to starboard (near knockdown), another crew that was on the cabin top lost grip and also went overboard. As Magic rounded up, we gybed back to starboard. It was a mess. --Michael-- From: edwmama <ed… [at] gmail.com> To: "Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> Cc: "Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 16, 2013 11:00 PM Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] used sails -Michael Michael What's a chinese broached ?
