RE: [Cal_Boats] Fixed port gasket - Chris
Hi, Chris. Years ago, I looked all over for the gaskets when I was going to fix the ports, lights, windows (never sure on this terminology) on my CAL 25. I finally found something similar at an RV dealer. My final assembly continued to leak. This was when I found Mark Plastics (Go Industries at the time). Not necessarily cheap, but considering the amount of time I put into the previous rebuild and the result, Mark was well worth it. I once bought 5 sets at once to get a discount, and distributed them to local CAL 25s.
Are you on the western side of the Eastern Time Zone?
One more note. We have a CAL 20 sitting at our dock and dying of neglect. CAL 20s are rare in Annapolis.

Cal sailors:
Our season really is getting short. Last night half of the sun's disc was behind the hills at 8:00 p.m. exactly. Just a few weeks back it wasn't getting dark until 9. I would cry out my lamentations but it doesn't stop the annual cycle, so I don't.
But I do start pondering fall, winter, and spring projects.
The fixed ports on my Cal 20 leak. About 10 years ago I rebedded the frames, but it looks like the leakage is from the edge of the glass itself. The glass is set in a vinyl gasket in the aluminum extrusion.
The vinyl gasket doesn't look bad but looks can be deceiving.
Does anybody know what kind of vinyl gasket was used on these ports, and where (if?) they are available?
By the way, the last two boats returning to mooring last night were my Cal 20 and her cousin, one of the Cal 25s--two handsome old boats.
