Jill, if you are going to use the chute, then your jib sheets need to be much longer. The jib sheet has to go outside the pole lift line in order for you to be able to gybe the chute and not mess up the jib set. On my CAL 25, I have 2 40 foot jib sheets – slight overkill. Your jib sheets would want to be 50 feet each, I think. My rule of thumb: Spin Sheets – twice the length of the boat (length helps in dousing the chute – I do bow sets) Jib Sheets – 1.5 times the length of the boat (for reasons of spinnaker as stated above) Question for the group: How do you gybe the chute with a roller furler jib? Where do the jib sheets go? And that line calculator link is really cool! Great resource. I am just purchasing the boat and I'm new to sailing, so I'm just going off of what the surveyor suggested I get. 1/2" would probably be fine. I do have a spinnaker. -Jill On Sep 15, 2013, at 5:17 AM, "Husar, Charlie [USA] (ASE)" <hu… [at] bah.com<mailto:hu… [at] bah.com>> wrote: Hi, Jill. Where are you located? A couple items. Most common of the manufacturers are New England Ropes and Samson. You shouldn’t need super low stretch for jib sheets Something like New England Sta-Set X or Samson XLS would do the trick, I believe. 9/16” sounds fat for the jib sheets. Would ½” do it? Do you ever fly a spinnaker? It affects the length of the sheets due to going over the spin pole. All that side, places I know of to check are: Mauri-Pro Sailing in Texas – check on-line for prices Bacon Sails in Annapolis – check on-line for prices West Marine periodically has good line sales. You can get on their E-Mail list to stay informed. Do you have boat shows in your area? (They usually have sales.) For some of the on-line sites, you would have to pay shipping, but not sales tax depending on where you are located. Does anyone know of any deals? Recommendations on brand types? Sellers? I'll be in the market for some other rigging soon also.
