David, Was out yesterday. Saw you boom and sails were off your boat. Also noticed a few boats already gone. Blew off work and got out for a sail. As you know, this time of year when the winds are blowing 25+ it is usually out of the NE and the waves, well..are big. Yesterday however, was a treat. S/SW wind, sunny and about 80 degrees. A great day any time of the year but even better on Oct 1. I always save some vacation time for my river trip. You have seen Windjammer...I can pop-in almost any time. Even if I have to raft-up to another boat or Jimmy Hoffa - whatever is in the river will do. We'll do the river trip to the yard next week, weather permitting. I like to make that trip in a tee shirt and shorts. I did it once in a blinding rainstorm with temps in the 40's, not fun. Being retired now I have the ability to pick my day. My yard is only busy on the weekends, so they only need a day's notice. The only hassle is the O'Brien lock, but I have a feeling that the Corps guys who operate it haven't been furloughed. But the commercial traffic, (barges), has increased and they get priority, and the lockmaster will only let pleasure boats in with a barge if it's empty. It's a 1000 ft. lock, and sometimes a barge will fill it. We have had to wait while a barge locked, then another going in the opposite direction. And they are not in a hurry. I don't mind, the increased traffic means more people are working, more business is being transacted, good for all of us. So we wait, turning lazy circles in the river, no place to tie up. If the wind is light we can just float, but usually there's more wind than that. David Dobbs CAL 29 411 This e-mail may contain privileged or confidential information. Steve, Elizabeth Grace is always a pleasure to see, as are all Cals. We need to do a Cal regatta next year, that would be fun.
