Spin pole/Gin pole

When I put the new deck and beam in my Cal 25 I also installed a hinged mast base so I could step without assistance. Would my Spinnaker pole be adequate to use as a gin pole? Just need to build a bracket to attach to the mast/base. Otherwise I'll use a wooden beam that I can clamp on the mast. Thanks for your help! Kevin Cal 25 Panache

Spin pole is stronger than a whisker pole and lots of people use them to pole out a jib. A whisker pole will be longer. The whisker pole can be up to some multiple of the foot, I think 1.5 times but not sure. For example, my spin pole is 13.5 ft and the whisker pole is to 22 feet. We usually pole out about 20 feet.
