125-140% genoa
sa… [at] west.net2013-11-23 16:03 UTC
got a 1976 Cal 34 MK III - I'm interested in replacing the current (and old) 155% genoa with a smaller one - any recommendations? - what would the dimensions be for the luff, leech and foot? - good source for used sail purchases? - thanks

I have a website that will sort through a ton of used sail listings and
show sails that might fit your boat. When you find a sail you like, click
the link and it will show the vendor. Full disclosure: I make nothing on
this, have no ties to the vendors, it is a service to the sailing community
pure and simple.
Here is the link for what you are looking for.
http://l-36.com/sails.php?boat=Cal+34-iii&i=41.3&j=13.8&fs=43.5%28est%29&p=35.5&e=11&isp=41.3&jsp=13.8&py=&ey=&sail=jib&lp0=125&lp1=155
That said, on my boat I find a 130 jib less than useful because it sheets
to the widest part of the boat so the sheeting angle is poor. The sail is
constrained by the lifelines and spreader. Your boat may be different. I
let my nice new Quantum 130 sit in the bag and go right from a 90 to a 155.

On my 1978 Cal 34 III, I would go from my 150 to my 90. Then to my 70, when necessary - which turned out to be often in the Caribbean tradewinds. In fact, I never flew my 150 after I left the Bahamas along the Thorny Path to the Caribbean. It was simply too windy for it.
Bacon Sails, in Annapolis, has a selection of sails to fit a Cal 34. http://baconsails.com/

Bacon is one of the vendors my used sails search site checks. In fact,
when you go on the site I linked, it will do the search of all the sails at
Beacon in real time and do the math for your boat reading out the %size, %
hoist, and clew height in feet above the tack. It also does a total of 4
other vendors all at the same time. The database is updated each evening
off the vendors web sites and in real time in the case of Beacon as I said.
Please let me know if you have any difficulty using it. Perhaps I need to
make it easier to use.
