Bahamas haulout?

another 5-ish weeks until we "Submit" to our next misadventures aboard our antique CAL Cruising 36. Much of our time is spent getting from near Jacksonville, FL, south and east to the Bahamas and then heading back when our time runs out. We are contemplating trying to find a boatyard somewhere over/down there where we could have the boat hauled and stored until the next time, 8 or 9 months later. Start farther south and get farther south! Suggestions? Thoughts? Reggie and Barbara CAL Cruising 36 "Submit" Green Cove Springs, FL. CAL 27 T/2 "Knot Ready" Flathead Lake, MT

re: boat storage/berthing farther South... Hi Reggie & Barbara, You might consider Ft Lauderdale, as it is an easier shot to the Keys & East... Docking behind a private house might be commensurate with a haulout/keeping boat on the hard.... That is, at least, what I do; Even further south might be better; but, I am not familiar with the locations, their related costs, and weather security.... Hello Reggie & Barbara, We live in Pompano Beach, just north of Fort Lauderdale. We are definitely in a better position to get to the Keys and the Bahamas. From the inlet, it takes us about 12 hours to make West End on Grand Bahama Island. Getting to Biscayne Bay takes about eight hours. However, if $$ is a major consideration, you may want to berth Submit north of here. Once you reach West Palm Beach, dockage may be priced more than you are willing to spend. If you want to keep Submit in the water at a private dock, you will find plenty of options. My friend pays $250 a month for his Catalina 36. Of course, the closer you are to an inlet, the higher the price. As far as I know, there are no yards in south Florida that one can economically keep a sailboat on the hard. Real estate here is at a premium, several yards have sold out to developers that put up high-rise residential condos.
