Re: [Cal_Boats] Mast Parts
Hey Sam -
Fellow Cal 39 sailor here. What is your mast height? We have a boat load of sails that came with our boat that we might be willing to part with if you are in need of a spare. We have the short rig (55' off the water) and I say "might" because I don't remember what all we have and they would most likely only be good for back ups depending on what the average age of your sails are.
We'll definitely follow you to see how you do against the Cal 40's (our nemesis) here on the Chesapeake Bay LOL. We seem to have one in every race to beat and have only been successful once.
Do you have the 2 head version or the 2 cabin version w/o the head and the aft facing nav station? We have the latter. Ours was a semi custom boat built for Ray Hunt's son. We have all opening ports and an in between draft of 6'.
If you need any other parts just email me at pwestla at aol dot com as our boat was full of old stuff the PO removed. Ours is a 1980 model by the way.
Good luck!

Hi Sam,
Just followed you on G+. BTW, I have a community on Google+ called "Sailing". There are lots of communities called sailing but is the largest with a bit over 2,000 members. Anyone on Google+ should join :-)

First a shameless plug for the Pac Cup https://pacificcup.org/entries. There are 3 Cal 40s, 2 Cal 39s, and a Cal 34 going from San Francisco to Kaneohe Hawaii this July. This is my second, and I was the second entrant with our boat Wind Song, a Cal 39 mark III for this years race. . Wind Song has a fledgling G+ website https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/108967235431150516761/108967235431150516761/posts. If you could all look at it, follow it. like it I would appreciate the exposure for Cal Boats, the Pacific Cup race, my boat and intrepid band of misfits.
Now to the post and giving back. I have a standard rig, made by Kenyon. I am rebuilding the boom and want to get at least a spare boom internal gooseneck fitting and an outhaul fitting too. I am asking Kenyon to break out the old molds and cast me one. Here is the site with my specific boom and parts, http://rigrite.com/Spars/Kenyon_Spars/3756-boom.html. If there was anyone who knows of an old boom that was removed when a new one was fitted I would be happy with a decent used one. It looks like they can make a lot of parts for the Cal boats. I did order new sheaves for my outhaul.
If anyone else wants to rebuild, buy spares or otherwise needs part(s) for their Kenyon boom or mast, I was hoping to spur Rigrite to greater haste with the additional pressure of others in need. I had to call them to get them to respond and most of the cast parts are not in stock. They need to make some more and that seems to take time. (of course I got a spar maker in new zealand to make me a custom goose neck saddle in about two weeks time) and they are quoting me six months.
Is that like asking for a second date and the girl says 'maybe.'
Aloha fellow Cal sailors!
Sam
