Mast Parts

First a shameless plug for the Pac Cup https://pacificcup.org/entries https://pacificcup.org/entries. There are 3 Cal 40s, 2 Cal 39s, and a Cal 34 going from San Francisco to Kaneohe Hawaii this July. This is my second, and I was the second entrant with our boat Wind Song, a Cal 39 mark III for this years race. . Wind Song has a fledgling G+ website https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/108967235431150516761/108967235431150516761/posts https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/108967235431150516761/108967235431150516761/posts. If you could all look at it, follow it. like it I would appreciate the exposure for Cal Boats, the Pacific Cup race, my boat and intrepid band of misfits.
Now to the post and giving back. I have a standard rig, made by Kenyon. I am rebuilding the boom and want to get at least a spare boom internal gooseneck fitting and an outhaul fitting too. I am asking Kenyon to break out the old molds and cast me one. Here is the site with my specific boom and parts, http://rigrite.com/Spars/Kenyon_Spars/3756-boom.html http://rigrite.com/Spars/Kenyon_Spars/3756-boom.html. If there was anyone who knows of an old boom that was removed when a new one was fitted I would be happy with a decent used one. It looks like they can make a lot of parts for the Cal boats. I did order new sheaves for my outhaul.
If anyone else wants to rebuild, buy spares or otherwise needs part(s) for their Kenyon boom or mast, I was hoping to spur Rigrite to greater haste with the additional pressure of others in need. I had to call them to get them to respond and most of the cast parts are not in stock. They need to make some more and that seems to take time. (of course I got a spar maker in new zealand to make me a custom goose neck saddle in about two weeks time) and they are quoting me six months.
Is that like asking for a second date and the girl says 'maybe.'
Aloha fellow Cal sailors!

Hi Sam,
Just followed you on G+. BTW, I have a community on Google+ called
"Sailing". There are lots of communities called sailing but is the largest
with a bit over 2,000 members. Anyone on Google+ should join :-)

Glad to hear it. I should have checked, sorry.
There are some people posting some nice pictures and some people getting
advice. It is a small community but seems to be working out. Lots of nice
boat pictures being put up and some people getting advice and sharing their
adventures as well.

I have been to your web page often. Great tool for searching sails at multiple vendors, getting size ideas, and the lp calculator makes that painless too.

Allen what is the full name of the group? I spent Presidents day tutoring a fellow with a Cal 25 who wanted to get up to speed to single hand his boat. He hadn't sailed the boat in some time, so his running rigging was a bit green and moldy, the sea water took care of that, thankfully. Nicely rigged boat, a former racer, and he had some nice late model UK sails on it. I bet he is still suffering from charlie horses from what I put him thru! He sure learned alot, tho. My age (olde sea dog) but a fast learner. Made me appreciate my Cal 24 all the more, my boat is three times easier to single hand...and more fun to sail But, it's all good. I have a hunch most folks out there sailing haven't a clue what tel tales are for, how to read them, if they have them, which many don't. It's a shame.

The Google plus community is called sailing. There are probably 20
communities with the same name but mine is the first one listed as it has
more members than all the others combined. Just search within the
communities tab and look for the picture of the two TP52 bows.

I'm addicted to tell tales, especially the ones on the jib and main.
Sometimes I'll pause and wonder how I sailed before I used them. (The
answer is "not very well," I think). I like to turn the helm over to
guests on my boat, since (it seems to me) much of the fun is making the
boat go. And often enough they get to chattering, and looking off in
the distance, and sailing on a beam reach with sails close-hauled. Me,
I can chatter and watch the sails at the same time.
That said, it's kinda like George Carlin's comments on other drivers
(those going faster than I am are maniacs; those slower are morons). We
probably should be grateful that people are out sailing, and hope that
some day they'll be better at it.

Tell tales are the art of the sport of sailing!! We had a champion Sunfish sailor named Earl Campbell whose name lives on at the Oktoberfest Regatta who had the standard tell tales cemented to his sails, but also taught me to put cassette tape on the shrouds for light air days, but truly knocked his competitors out by lighting a cheap cigar in the lightest air races and followed the trace of the smoke to decide how to trim his sails! Won more races than anyone I know (and I have been around Rod Johnstone and John Kolius) when using these techniques. Whenever we sailed on Galveston Bay or Raritan Bay we could always tell the sailors who had raced versus those who have not by the luffing of the luff or fluttering of the leach of their jibs -- No one who had ever been trained to watch their tell tales would ever allow this to happen!!
