Yanmar 3GM30F cooling problem
Travis Porter2014-03-24 01:40 UTC
Hi all,
My raw water pump failed, and after opening the pump, I found that all six
rubber vanes had broken off of the hub. I found five. It is likely that
the sixth was carried out the outlet and into the heat exchanger inlet and
is lodged against the tube sheet. Has anyone had any experience in removing
the end cover plate on the heat exchanger and replacing it without
disturbing the tube sheet? Is this possible?
Thanks,

I took the end cover off mine when I suspected it was clogged. It wasn't and I put the cover back on without incident.

Insure the hose to the exchanger is not plugged with parts of the impeller.
I have removed the covers from both ends of the cooling tube and removed the assembly without any trouble. It was also a good opportunity to clean the tubes of any kind of buildup, using vinegar, and reaming with a soft instrument.
Putting it back together should not be an issue as long as you remember which end goes in from the front of the engine.I was told that was necessary, and did not question the source! .
The gasket set is not too expensive, and the cleaning is listed as part of regular maintenance in the manual.
I have 11 thumbs, so if I can do it, you should have no problem.

Guys,
Thanks for the response. I’ve ordered parts from LaBorde, and will tackle it when they arrive.
