I was thinking this would be ideal for 3-D printing. Everything else in modern sailing has gone exotic, so why not.
Those sure are cute little hinges. Have not seen those before.
Cheers, Anyway

You could make two or have a machinist do it. Brass isn't that hard to machine. Stainless would be difficult. It would only take a bench vice, a hammer, a drill, and a bench grinder. You could not make 5000 that way, but you only need two.

Here are the hinges I ended up with. They are as close as I could find to the original "Cal" style hinges.

I contacted one of the companies about making a run in SS or brass. I was told they only tool up for 5000 sets at a time.

Can you post a picture of what you are looking for?

I have been hunting for "Cal" hinges for a decade. No bananas. Right now I have four sets of knife hinges that approximate the originals. It requires modification to the cabinet door cut out slot. During installation, I rub them down with Lanocote to help prevent corrosion. Living in a salt water environment doesn't help.

Suncor makes a stainless version but they are very pricey. Brass or steel ones can be purchased at a good hardware store.

I would appreciate advice/suggestions on where/how I might find cabinet door hinges (they are rather peculiar) or equivalent replacements for a 1980 Cal-39.

There are "Solid Brass" items, and "Brass-Plated" ones, solid brass is
just that.....Brass metal and although not corrosion-proof, they are OK
usually in marine applications and can be polished up if tarnished.
Brass-plated however, might look like Brass metal but is usually either a
thin layer of brass metal plated over steel or on far too many items in
the hardware store, it is a thin layer of Brass over zinc. This is not
just a marine problem, it also affects restorers of old houses and
furniture.
Solid Brass will last a lifetime (or more!) and may have a lacquer finish
to preserve the bright finish, Brass-plated...... well, it depends on the
base metal...... but it will not last long in a wet application,
especially on a boat.
Brass IS a REAL metal, it is a alloy of copper and zinc (Naval Brass is
an alloy of copper and tin, essentially bronze if I recall correctly?)

Duane,
I think I like the hinges you got more than the ones I ended up with. I
see that both styles are steel based, so neither are ideal.

Bill,
I bought some of these and installed them on the undersink head cabinets
on my 1978 Cal2-39.

They are a pretty close replacement. Only required new screw holes and
some minor lengthening of the slot for the hinge.

Amerock BP3428-3 Polished Brass Face Mount Self Closing - 3/8" Inset Hinges
These can be found on Amazon and are a dead ringer for the cabinet hinges on my Cal 28.
