I recently bought a 2-27 (#93). Standing rigging is of unknown age, and given the history of 2-27's losing masts here on SF Bay and beyond, I'm planning to replace the rigging asap. Would love to hear advice from any other 2-27 sailors re: re-rigging/upgrading. I've seen the Steve Seals article that basically says to up-size all the wiring by 1/16", but wonder if there are any other tricks. Thanks, and good luck Ronnie! Adam, I bought our 1979 Cal 2-27 in December of 2003. While the standing rigging "appeared" to be in good shape, we replaced it in 2005. During refit, we discovered one swaged fitting was cracked/failing. Yes, we also upgraded the rigging as discussed in Steve Seals article. If you have a rigger do the work, I recommend that you carefully inspect the fittings prior to reinstallation. Steve Seal will tell you that boats sailed and raced on SF bay should have their standing rigging replaced every 7 years. Wire is a lot cheaper than masts. Replace the clevis pins too!
