Hi, Vince. You have a good boat. I’m a CAL 25er myself, and have worked on many, but some of the lessons are the same. Is the 27 mast deck or keel stepped? If deck stepped, I have a trick for mast removal if your dock neighbors are friendly. Among the lessons, a lot of the parts on the boats changed over time. On the 25, the masts, booms, spreader brackets, and even spreaders changed. I think Jensen used what he could get at the time of manufacture. A lot of the glas pieces were hand cut, so they varied. Some things like masts and chainplates were not necessarily mounted in the same place (some others else mentioned that). If you are measuring the spreaders, also measure up the hole pattern and thickness at the bracket (or don’t drill the spreaders until you have the parts) . Those might not be same on all 27s. On the masthead sheaves, I know that you said that you need halyards to get up there in the first place. There is a second item for working up the mast. A lot of it takes the delicate hand of a brain surgeon. It is amazing how many things can fall to the deck (or the water) while you are trying to accomplish a mission up there. When buying bolts, nuts, and the like, always get a spare “for the bilge” or “for the water”. Saves many trips to the hardware store. Some of this may be preaching to the choir. Dang, it is still very chilly areound here. You may find that after you have made spreaders from a drawing, they will not fit. Take down your mast and use your spreaders for a pattern. This is the only way to be sure they will fit.
