Re: [Cal_Boats] CAL 34-III: Anodized Aluminum Cross Beam?
For the boats that indeed do have the “dreaded” beam, I thought they were galvanized steel (as opposed to the original Lapworth spec of stainless steel).

Dear Cal Boat Group:
I am thinking about buying a CAL 34-III. Is it possible to find out if the anodized aluminum crossbeam that the mast rests on is corroded by looking at it. And is there a way to view the crossbeam from inside the cabin? Should I be worried about buying the boat because of the aluminum crossbeam? Does white powder form on the aluminum crossbeam, and if so, does this become airborne? Can you give me any advice about the crossbeam?
Thanks
