I've done a bit of further research and I think John is correct: This must be set up with a 2:1 purchase. Originally, the foot of the sail was nearly 14" long and the luff was over 32 feet. It is likely that using a 2:1 purchase made it considerable easier to raise that amount of canvas. Thankfully, some PO had swapped out for a boom only 10' long with sheeting from the end vertical to a padeye just above the transmission shifter which doesn't use the traveler at the aft end of the cockpit. I'll look tomorrow, but suspect I'll find that the wire rope makes two trips up and down.
