depth finder - Cal 2-29
Hi Everyone!
I have gotten a new depth finder to replace the one in the stem of the bow on Kool Beans. The diameter of the transducer is 2" . It would have been nice to find one the same size as the old one, but that is the way the world turns. The install instructions call for the transducers for sailboats be installed forward of the keel on the starboard side, in which I agree. It also states that it should also be at least 6" from the center line of the hull and not in the proximity of other thru hull intakes.
The location I would like it is approximate 8" forward of the keel and 6-7" from the center of the hull. Before I drill a pilot hole for the thru hull, can anybody recommend a better location? Another question is,, if I go through with this location, would it be safe as to not jeopardize the integrity of the keel joint?
I realize that I have to locate the location of the thru hull inside the cabin, and make a access panel on the cabin sole. I'm just concerned that I might be to close to a bulk head that could cause some potential problems.
If anybody has any suggestions, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you to all in advance for your help and advice!
Happy Sailing!
