Why make a hole? Most if not all senders will shoot through the hull once you find solid glass (a place where there is no liner and no bubbles in the glass). I just put on in and am shooting through the hull under the settee. Put the ducer in a baggy with water and find the spot that is out of the way and where you get a good and steady reading - then clean the spot and glass the puck to the hull.

Excellent idea. You can also use a big blob of silicone to bed the transducer in, instead of glassing it in. *Joe DeMers - owner* Sound Marine Diesel LLC SoundMarineDiesel.com <http://www.soundmarinediesel.com/>*phone & fax (860) 666-2184* On 6/12/2014 8:23 AM, Paulus du… [at] aim.com [Cal_Boats] wrote: > Why make a hole? I hate making more holes in a boat hull. We have mounted our depth transducers inside the hull. Some people bed them with a gob of silicone caulk, but I prefer to make a container (a section of PVC pipe can work well) epoxied to the hull), and then filled with mineral oil (doesn't spoil or grow critters) and suspend the transducer in the oil. Incidentally, a previous owner had mounted the transducer under the port quarterberth, and it worked fine for us there. Our Tartan has it in the bow as you describe, but I don't have a strong opinion about location. All the best, Alfred Poor 1973 Tartan 34C #288 "Jambalaya" (former owner of 1969 Cal 29 #132 "Pentaquod")
