"Good Ole Boat" That brings back memories (and leads me to a marketing pitch).

Charlie - How "ole" does your boat need to be? 1980 old enough? Where is skippers meeting? Dang, Folks (but thanks, Paul). I forgot to say that the only requirement is that the first boat of your hull type had to be built at least 30 years ago. You sound like a winner. Get 2 more CAL 39s, and you can one design. We’ve had CAL 29 (Alfred Poor), CAL 36, and, of course CAL 25 one designs in the past - not to mention individuals in CAL 28, CAL 2-30, CAL 34, and a CAL 40 as an RC boat. Skippers meeting will be at Bay Ridge Marina in Lake Ogleton on the Severn River near Annapolis. Maps are up on the Shearwater Sailing Club web site on Races tab at top. Other race info there as well. http://shearwatersc.net/ Cheers Charlie From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com [mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com] Sent: Friday, October 03, 2014 1:43 PM To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Subject: [External] Re: [Cal_Boats] End of Season and Good Ole Boat Charlie - How "ole" does your boat need to be? 1980 old enough? From barstools at Davis Pub in Eastport Annapolis 15 years ago, a sailing friend (Pearson Triton owner) and I cooked up the idea for a classic boat regatta to fend off the attack of the J Boats. We named it the Good Old Boat Regatta (GOBR). We then heard about a recently started publication called “Good Old Boat Magazine (GOBM)”. We did not want to get sued, so we called our race the “Good Ole Boat Regatta”. Then I got in touch with the fine folks of the GOBM, and they loved the idea of our race. So ever since we’ve been the “Good Old Boat Regatta “. Fifteenth edition this year. GOBM even provides free subscriptions to the winners in each class. The event is as much a celebration of our boats as it is a race. We get all shapes and sizes. It is billed as a race for vessels “of some maturity”. I’ll be racing my CAL 25. Dates are October 10 (Fri) for the Skippers Meeting, and October 11 (Sat) for the race and party. Some of the basics are: - First time and recent racers are invited (in addition to more seasoned folks) – training provided - Handicap classes are divided into fin keel and full keel designs - No spinnakers for handicap classes - Race is run on Government marks in the Chesapeake Bay - 3 boats of a given hull type constitutes a one design with separate starts and awards - We have a skippers meeting and post race party at a marina in Lake Ogleton near Annapolis - No additional charge for food and drink at the party - Free anchorage available at the party site - If you play an acoustic instrument – bring it A trip to the GOBR can be combined with a trip to the Annapolis Sail Boat Show the same weekend.
