shift cable '75 2-27

I have a 1975 2-27 and the shift cable running from cockpit down to transmission broke. Twice, or more accurately in two places. First the arm that holds the cable in place snapped off of a headbolt underneath. I was able to repair that by taking off the old and having a new one made. The second break is the cable itself. I need to have a new one made as no one here (Lake Texoma area) has anything that will fit. I was told by my marina it would cost about $200, have to come from a maker in CA, and take about a month. Anyone have better suggestions?

Joe, Remove the shift cable. Take it to West Marine or another favorite boat supply store. Teleflex makes cables of various length. You should be able to match it up with a new one. I think your marina is just doing their job. If you buy the cable and ends yourself, you'll probably spend about $60 or so. Add an hour or more of labor to that and you are approaching the $200 mark. It's an easy DIY project. Morse also makes cables that can be ordered by length. Most power, sail and work boats use these as controls. Don't overlook you local power boat store John Raxter 336-210-8073 (m) > On Oct 24, 2014, at 4:08 PM, Michael D md… [at] yahoo.com [Cal_Boats] <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: > > Joe, > > Remove the shift cable. The shift cable on my. 227 broke about 5 yes ago I found a replacement on line for about $50. The length on mine (#650 diesel) is 4 ft and this is unusually short but a longer one should fit. There should be sizing info on the side indicating the size you need. I broke mine on Wednesday paid extra for freight and as I remember fixed it Monday. Unfortunately I don't remember where I got it. Good luck.
