97.25635% of all percentages are made up on the spot,
87.27601% of all boat manufacturers use Taco Marine for rub rails
100.0000% of their rub rail line is shown here:

Hi Joe,
I have a 1971 cal 27 pop top and am looking for a new rub rail. Is the one on this in good condition and do you know if it's the same?
Regards,
Jon

However, Timm, the other 12.72399% of “gunnel rubbers” – otherwise known as the rub rails, come from Steve at Seals Spars in CA or Rudy at D&R Marine in MA (well, maybe a few other places)..
I would suggest that a used rub rail would not install well (sorry, Joe, but maybe you agree). The rails tend to stiffen and chalk over time, and would be difficult to mold to the proper shape on the deck hull joint. The D&R rub rails do not chalk (from my experience). Jon, I have install instructions for a new rail if you are interested. Need a supple part to install. Not really a winter job unless you have a way to keep the rail heated.
I know Taco has rub rails and many metal parts. Do they have a Taco bell?
Take Care

And then there are the rubrails that were installed on the Cal 25-2 and the 1980 Cal 227. These are a rigid plastic with an I shaped vinyl insert that cracks when it approaches a dock.

Charlie, I purchased rub rail from D&R, followed your instructions, it looked great. Yard guys were skeptical, they said it would pop off when they lifted the boat to launch. That's been many years ago, it's still in place, and that was when I earned their respect. even though I'm a "ragbagger".

David, it’s great to hear when things work well (wish it was more often …sigh…)
For John B (the sloop I assume), do you realize how technologically complex it is for a rub rail to detect a dock at a distance, and then inject enough piezoelectric energy to crack the rail to pieces? Be thankful for modern times. :- ]

As I have aged, and become more aware of things, I’m pretty sure the rail failure must have something to do with a cloud.
I see them on the horizon and the wind stops, (sailing content)
I get them in my head, and cannot think,
I get them in my eyes and cannot read
My computer got one, and now I am unable to find any file
My phone and ipad both got them, and now I have four of every email and photograph.
I believe this to be just one more cloud, a rub rail cloud; that is trying to wifi with the docking station.
Maybe it is time to unplug…
Hey! – you! - get off of my cloud – use to be my battle cry!

It is now readily apparent that dEmO is an artist and philosopher. Charlie is an engineer and nerd.
Just one piece of guidance when looking for stronger breezes in the Chesapeake (from one of the best racers here). I am not making this up.
“Sail toward the clouds.”
However, when clouds are on all sides, I cannot make much of this guidance.
