We're back! After selling our Cal 36 Holiday in 2012 on SF Bay then moving aboard our Moody 42 PH Ketch Primrose in North Carolina (see sank in Daytona Beach, FL) we are back to owning a Cal. She's a 1974 Cal Cruising 35 located on SF Bay. The plan is to make her ready to cruise and head to Mexico next fall. Her current name Vagrant will be changed when we come up with an acceptable name. Welcome to the Cruising 35 SF Bay contingent. My friend Howard and I own one each here. I had seen yours in Marina Bay before but I'm not sure if there are others. I've seen the Ketch rig in the line drawings, but yours is the only one I've seen in the flesh. I've been trying to collect enough info on the CC35's to figure out how many there really were (I know some are gone...) Wish I had kept track of the HINs on the ones I toured while picking mine. Sound off if you need any help or info. Hey Reggie, As long as it's not Ponce Inlet I'm open. How about Sea of Cortez? I think you and Barbara would like the cruising grounds there.Cheers, Mike RobinsonS/V Primrose and yet to named Cal Cruising 35(916) 705-3200 our blog:http://www.sailblogs.com/member/primrose/ To: ca… [at] yahoogroups.com From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2014 15:22:54 -0700 Subject: RE: [Cal_Boats] Cal Cruising 35...we're back Excellent! Up in Petaluma. So is Howard's. I had heard the number 14 many times but never could confirm. One online source I think said 65 and I also saw that 120 figure. I tend to think both of those may be far fetched. I believe these were only produced in 73 and 74. ( I saw one claiming to have been a "late" boat that went unfinished for a while and then was finally put together in the late 70's.) With this being a very expensive 35 footer and sort of a niche boat to begin with, it would seem that cranking out 65 in a two year period is a breakneck pace for a boat builder. (and boat buyers during the oil crisis as well). I'll check Howard's HIN and get back to you with ours, so we can try to figure out where on the spectrum they are. I've been on 5 of them and have read the Yachworld entries for at least 3-4 others so that would tend to make me believe 14 is a low number also. We definitely need to get planning on a Cal Rondy, haven't heard about one of those for a while. Kris,Attached is a list from Bangor Punta of Cal models built through year 1984. Steve Seal or Roger Jones contributed the list at one of the "Caltopia" events we had on SF Bay. They both had worked for Jensen. It does list 120 for 35's built 1973-1974. I was aboard the CC35 in La Paz last May. Had an offer but could not agree on a final price. Unfortunately she went ashore during Hurricane Odile this Sept. She is still listed but at a reduced price because of damage. Hi, Edward and I took the time to inspect one at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle while cruising the freshwater lake, it was in poor shape in our opinion..it was donated type of deal, had been sold once, then the parties buying it invested some time and money, then got their money back. There was baking soda sprinkled heavily throughout the boat and especially on the "new" holding tank plumbing. the floor is really screwed down. probably sat on a mooring for a long time. we made an offer of $4500 and luckily they said they couldn't let it go for less than 10. it's probably still for sale there, see CL if interested. A Cal rendezvous would be great, the last one we attended(probably the last one held) was at Richmond YC and was driven by the Lessleys. Let's try tp plan one, talk with some yacht clubs where there could be room, and see what kind of owner interest in participating we could get in order to present an event. Glad you're back Mike and Dianne. Helen and Edward (Cal 36 Caliente in Redwood City). Happy Thanksgiving all.
