Sailing season
Soft-water sailing season is about over in Michigan. The boats are
hauled, I have received my hauling and storage bills, and most of us are
attending to chores that were neglected in favor of sailing earlier. A
new DN iceboat trailer popped up a block from my house, so I walked over
to say hello.
And then Saturday I was headed for the recycling center, and as I drove
along Grand Traverse Bay I looked out and saw sails!! Wow, was I
jealous (ever mindful of the maxim that there is no such thing as bad
weather, just inappropriate clothing). Actually, it was above freezing
(36º F.), so some warm clothes would have made for a good sail in
moderate winds.
The boat was either a trailerable one or one that's bubbled in the
marina (not many of those around here). I couldn't stare too hard
because I was driving. It looked to small to be the local Cal 40, which
has been bubbled in the past.
