Off to "Submit" again

r good2015-01-09 20:51 UTC
We will be headed off to our old Cal Cruising 36 sailboat "Submit" again next week for 3 more months of misadventures. As before, we will occasionally write up reports and post them to sv-submit.blogspot.com We will send an email to let folks know when a new write-up has been added so it can be checked out. Feel free to post any comments on the blog. Some Cal list members have asked to get the notices because we do not put in on the list. If you would prefer not to get these announcements, please let me know and I will remove your email address from the notifications. if you don't get them but would like to, let me know. old Cals are worth whatever you can get for them. T/2s are great sailing boats, but homely. they have limited appeal. in excellent shape, you would probably feel like you had died and gone to heaven if you could get $9500 for her. lots have sold for $5000or less. each person values "fair condition" differently. poor, fair, good, very good, excellent. with or without trailer, inboard or outboard, etc. if you love the boat and enjoy sailing her, it is worth more to you than you can get for her. if she is just hanging around being a pain to deal with and expensive to keep, give her away for a tax write off or to someone who will love her. also, location counts. I bought mine, an inboard, with trailer for $3000 and if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have paid that much. I'm glad I was "uneducated" at the time. I might not have bought her and I would have missed out on the things she has taught me, the past 16 summers of sailing, racing, winning, giggles of joy, sighs of pleasure, looks of astonishment as she outsails other boats, sunsets in her cockpit at anchor, evening cruises with friends new and old, feeling of peace as the engine shuts down and the sails fill, smiles as someone new tries the helm and begins to discover sailing. "fair condition"? immeasurable value if you enjoy her, a worthless liability if you don't. pick your number. 1974 Cal 27 T/2 hull number 098, "Knot Ready" to sell her. She waits under 2 feet of recent snow to sail again in the summer. value? priceless! 1969 Cal Cruising 36, "Submit"ing in two days to her call to come spend the next 3 months living on her, sailing her, enjoying her.
