Lapworth Story
Charlie Husar2015-02-17 02:39 UTC
Hi, All. Well, the beautiful snow is falling, and the Severn River at my
place is frozen across. Frostbite races are in hiatus. We had near record
low water due to 35-40 knot (gust to 50) NW winds blowing the water out of
the Chesapeake Bay. We had some really stressed dock lines at CAL 25 Row.
Water was so low that it was dangerous to try get on the boats (much less
get off the boats).
As a recent retiree, I am cleaning out the attic (but, of course). I came
across a card from Peggy Lapworth that I want to share. The history is that
the Lapworths moved from CA to the Northern Neck of VA on the Chesapeake in
the early 90s. In 93 or 94, I invited Bill and Peggy to our CAL 25 Spring
Luncheon at Riordan's (the basketball player and great guy) Saloon on City
Dock in Annapolis. Just about dropped my teeth when the Lapworths accepted.
They were just about to undertake a tour of the Great Lakes on their CAL 46,
and timing fit in to be in Annapolis.
For Christmas, Peggy and Bill sent me this card. A little hard to read.
Ahhhh, Nostalgia. I have a few stories about the luncheon and a gift we
gave to Peggy at the event, but I'll save those for another time if anyone
is interested.
Cheers
Charlie

Very cool Charlie! And yes we'd (at least I) would love to hear stories about your lunch with them.

Interested, of course. Any way you could increase the contrast on your
scan of the card? As a retired guy, you've got time on your hands....
Grand Traverse Bay has just frozen officially. In the old days it would
freeze about 7 of 10 years. More recently it has become very rare,
although the last two winters have seen official freezes. I need to go
out to the storage yard and rake the snow off the cover of good ol' Cal
20 #1220 again.
