CAL 33-2 Forward Hatch
rk… [at] yahoo.com2015-03-09 00:25 UTC
Hello All! I hope most of you are able to shovel out and start thinking their might be a spring. I am working on the forward deck hatch on my 1988 CAL 33-2 and have a couple broken plastic items. Does anyone know the make of the hatch? I am thinking Lewmar but I don't really know. Of course a part number would be fantastic but anything I can get will help. I'm hoping to contact the manufacture to see if the broken parts are available. Thanks in advance and here's hoping to sailing soon!

Rick, I have a 1987 Cal 33-2 and the fore hatch is a Lewmar . Hatchmasters in Norwalk Conn. Will repair them. Also they have parts for the hatches. Still shoveling snow from the boat but spring is coming soon I hope.

Hi Rick,
Don’t know about the other replys stating Lewmar hatch. Hwever, I replaced mine a couple of years ago with a Bomar from Defender. Always possible the Bomar was itself a replacement, but it didn’t appear so.
It was Defender # 900528, Bomar Low Profile Performance Hatch. Was an extact match to the hatch on my 1987 33-2. I replaced the old hatch opening parts with the same part from the new one, left the old spigot frame in place as removal would have been awful.
Cost me $415 which seems high but not outrageous compared with the repair cost of around $200 for just the plastic window. For a couple of hunderd more I got the latches and opening rods too, plus I have a spare frame! Seemed worth it to me.

Jeep and Ted,
Sent pictures to Hatchmasters. We shall see what they say. My hardware broke when I removed the hatch. I am working on the opening now. I had a couple inches of rotten core around the aft 1/3rd of the hatch, and the gelcoat was cracking away. Maybe a hatch at the bottom of that slope wasn't such a great idea. Anyway, I have the new core in and I'm ready to put a couple layers of glass next week, then gelcoat. After that, replace hatch with new hardware I hope.

All,
They identified my hatch as a Lewmar Ocean hatch. There are a couple hinge options but they sent me the correct parts. Thanks again for the responses!
