Thank you for all the feedback. Since posting I did find this site and
their prices seem reasonable. Shipping adds quite a bit to the cost.

I am going to do this job myself. I am a capable carpenter. I did get a
quote from our boat yard, due to time. I already have lots of projects
going. But after their quote I decided I would definitely do this job
myself. They quoted me $4400 just for the labor and then another $1100 or
so for materials. I felt they were very high on the labor. And I maybe a
little high on materials. They stated $80 per hour, $4400 total labor and
total job was around $5500. I guess he planned to saunter back and forth to
the boat or something. Also charge me for varnish drying time or something.
I just don't see this being a 55 hour job. And if it is, I'm not paying
someone $80 per hour.

We have Cal 36 although we "Like" the Yacht Look of teak and holly. our boat came with fiberglass liner. Also our boat came with high quality carpet that was custom cut and edged that is warmer ...and if one of our butterfinger crew member ..."opps dropped it" ...we do not have to worry about
finish on the floor ...and you can easily pull out, hose off, dry and return ...At Caltopia we ran into a
cute couple on a Cal 39 "Chance" who hastily carpeted the main salon floor then tapedthe edge with colored Duct tape...we liked it so much we did our Cal 29 carpet, it's still in years lateralso ...you can also put snaps on edges to hold in place ....anyway we have a holly tree that we have been growing for years and we were thinking of making our own teak and holly floor ...But we prefercarpet ...Edward Cal 36 "Caliente"

One of the big reasons I got Teak and Holly is that you don't have to
varnish it. And the reason I didn't want to varnish it is that it is not
slippery when wet. That is the reason that Holly is used, it is a light
good that does not get dark if it gets wet. The reason that teak is used
is that the wood has natural oils and does not need a finish to protect
it. If I kept up with the oiling, it would look better so if I cared how
it looked I would wash it, lightly sand it, and re-oil. I think varnishing
teak is a crime against nature but everyone does it.
So, before you spend days and hours putting 8 coats of varnish on, consider
leaving it natural.
