My 29 came w an onboard and I cut my transom out and mounted the outboard directly on the transom. My Yamaha 9.9 has the extra long shaft and is the high thrust model. The high thrust is important for backing power. I do right around 6 knots under power.
It's a great setup the boat feels very smooth not having the inboard prop in front of the rudder.

Joe,I'd have someone look at the inboard, it might be repairable.David Dobbs, CAL29 411, A4 powered.

David,
I think that's going to be the plan. I going to have seatow move it to a spot closer to my house where I can get to it daily. I have a friend who repaired a diesel on a sailboat years ago who is going to look at it. If he can't help, I'll get a professional to come out and see. Then depending on cost will decide on the outboard. I want to thank everyone for being so helpful!

Joe, when you take that boat for a sail you will not regret your decision.David Cal29 411

Joe,
I’m glad you’ve concluded that the diesel repair is your best option. I’ve seen too many outboard adaptations that ust didn’t work. You have a fine boat there, and to botch it up would be a shame. When it’s all said and done, the repair will ask likely be more cost effective than the outboard option.
That and $3 will get you a cup at your local Starbucks.
