Fuel Tank

Well, there was a lot of discussion about fuel tanks a few weeks ago. I didn't chime in on it, since I had a new one fabricated when I repowered with a BetaMarine BZ482 eleven years ago. Sunday, when we arrived at Magic, we discovered that the fuel tank was leaking/weeping. Yesterday, I pumped all of the fuel out and removed the tank. I dropped it off at the shop to be used as a template for another one to be welded up. I'm not even sure the one I originally had made was constructed from standard rolled aluminum or with a marine grade alloy (5052). I found the receipt for the one I had made in 2004, and at that time it cost ~ $165.00. Anyway, last night was the weekly beercan race. I was not about to miss it, so I jury rigged a temporary fuel tank. I DO NOT recommend it as anything but temporary, but in a pinch it seems to do the job quite well. It is located in the aft starboard locker (normally where we stash beer), and "secured" using a PFD. See attached. Michaels/v Magic, Cal 2-27 Pompano Beach, FL
