"They" are supposed to test the beach tar balls-which caused the closure of miles of pristine So. Cal beaches- to see if they are related to the spill but I haven't heard nuttin yet.Typical journalism. When the result are in, the news may be buried somewhere in hopes by then the rest of us will have forgotten all about it, like the Great Gulf Spill. This is so Shell can get approval to drill in the most sensitive environment on the planet, where a spill will cause irreparable damage. So suppose they strike oil without having a blow out. How can they 'safely' recover it.?
Meanwhile, the walls of the pipeline that wasn't supposed to ever leak was 80% corroded thru in many places. This is why oil company assurances are so valuable, or in common English, not worth the paper they are written on. One thing I know, as long as big Oil companies can line the coffers of egomaniacs running for political office, these devils will approve selling our souls, and those of our prospective children/ sailing crew (heh heh, sailing content)Jerry of Shpritz

Been a busy race schedule already.
Yes, boats in our had a cruise to Santa Cruz island that weekend. The couple of boats at my dock came back with large tar balls and gray/green scum attached to the waterline.
Yesterday we did a offshore race in light air. We were sailing thru flat spots thinking we would start to loose speed or it would be a wind shift. I looked down and it was an oil slick keeping the waves down and full with tar balls.
The slick is still around.

Pardon the size of my font but my computer is all %$# by the NSA. Gee, but that seems like an awful lot of damage from just 20,000 gallons of crude oil! I mean, how can you foul 100 miles of coastline, and over a period of a month or more, from the equivalent volume of a small backyard swim pool? That is, unless there's a major cover-up.Jerry of Shpritz.
