Hi Gary - DO_ - get a 1/2" nylon line around it, and hoist away. A comealong helps a lot. Weight is about 300 pounds. DON'T - drop it on your foot! When I pulled my old feryman diesel out of my 29, I used my main and jib halyards with a loop that went around my boom. basically the halyards were attached to the loop that went around the boom. I used a 6:1 mainsheet on the bottom of the loop to lift the engine. I used a 4:1 that went from the loop to the end of the boom to move in and out. Moving in and out required pushing to get the loop around the various fittings on the boom, but we lifted it out, up and then passed it down on the ground in pretty short order. It was a decent system and by having a loop around the boom, w the halyard holding at the top and the load attached at the bottom of the loop, the boom is there only to steady the load and provide outward pull. Always a good idea to discuss w everyone an exit strategy if things go wrong. use new line. Good luck Jim East Coast cal 29 sailor. I built a bracket that sits on my companionway hatch track out of 2 X 10 material. One piece sits on top of the track and other bolted to it, fits just inside the edge of the companionway. In the center of this contraption, I put a hefty eye bolt. To that, was attached a chain hoist (not terribly expensive at Harbor Freight). I tied line around the engine and hoisted away. The chain hoist gives very good control. The bracket allows one to slide the engine forward a bit to get it out over the companionway floor. To get my old Farryman completely out of the boat when I repowered, I put the boat under a boat launch and had them lift it out of the boat and place it on the bed of a pickup.
