Re: Ports for Cal 35 Cruise?

We replaced 6 of the original ports on our 1966 CAL 36 (hull #22) back in 2001 with Newfound Metals opening ports. They have been great ever since, no problems and no leaks. Did it ourselves...I had to slightly enlarge the holes in the cabin top (maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch) to fit the new ports, but no big deal. They look great both inside and out. We used NFM bronze opening ports to replace all 9 of the ports on our Cal Cruising 36. The non-cored 3/8" deckhouse sides were a minor obstacle, as the ports want at least 3/4" thick walls for installation, however NFM sells teak spacers which look great and solve that problem.
