Bow pulpit supplier and also sealer
I've been corresponding with a guy who has purchased a sister vessel of
my other boat, a Dutch-built Seafarer from 1961. One of his problems is
a mangled bow pulpit. These appear to have been fabricated by the Dutch
yard that built the boats, which had focused mainly on building steel
naval and commercial vessels. I recall various recommendations for
stainless fabricators being offered but (of course) I did not pay
attention then. Where could he get a new pulpit built?
On another subject entirely, I was out sailing last night on the Cal 20
and it was in very light air--lots of time to observe. Last year I
rebedded my "chainplates" (really padeyes) on the boat using butyl
rubber tape, after seeing praise for that stuff on the list. So far it
is very good. What I observed is some creep out from under the
deck-mounted base. Basically, the butyl rubber compound is a very, very
viscous liquid, and it has been under compression forces, and it is
gradually oozing out and uncompressing. I like it.
