cal 36 beam pics Damon

If you go to sailnet.com and enter cal 36 beam, you will find a topic and inside there are actual beam shapes. Our own pics show a tab in head compartment, opposite side bolt heads, and to the lower left a set of bolt heads that may partially be covered with fiberglass tabbing to bulkhead. The other side is under vanity and I don't know if it's a tab or just through the beam. then as you go across to starboard, you can see a wedge attached to the beam, appearing to support the compression post. on the other side of the doorway, from under the pilotberth there are bolts and in the head compartment, the tab must be under the toilet platform. It appears to be the only set on the starboard side. This is a 67 cal, not cruising, so compartment floors are all on same level. If we go in to replace, it will be done from the head compartment side. Helen and Edward.

great pics, Helen... hell, with enough of the pan and a portion of the bulkhead cutaway, the job's a cinch! LOL
Thank you kindly. I'll check that sailnet section - I was thinking of replacing the beam [make a template] with a cutout from a delrin block - a few hundred dollars and fasten with stout stainless L brackets [rout out sections of the delrin to flush mount] - but that vertical fiberglass tab jutting up about an inch from the hull poses a concern - perhaps a slot cut with a skill saw in the delrin could allow the new plastic beam [no rusting] to straddle that.
Thanks again - helps when I don't have the vessel right at hand.

Damon, have you seen the Rockwell Sonicrafter for making such cuts? Other companies, including Fein who created the tool (patent expired), make a similar product.
Will Delrin have the required stiffness?
Cheers

gosh, charlie, that galvie beam although crimped with a couple of tack welded stabilizers is only an eighth of an inch thick - can't see how a 2" thick lemon wedge would not do at least twice the work - especially when it came to buffering up the bulkhead ... as well as the "pinch" between the hull cheeks on port and starboard ends - which tringulate the load from the back up through the leeward side's bulkhead and back to the mast step. I'm no bridgebuilder, but this one seems pretty straightforward.

yeah! I have an older Bosch... good but with that model you have the allen wrench accessory attachment... old school - great tool... would be tough to cut 2" thick Delrin tho.... bandsaw time!
