Universal Atomic 5432 diesel

Considering a CAL (1984) with a Universal Atomic 5432 diesel (no hour meter). Problem is boat is on the hard and there is no battery on board. Wanted to have a mechanic take a look...just wondering what he might be able to do to assess the condition given the status (on the hard without a battery). Any common problems with these engines ? Steve, end of the season here, no rush to make a decision. Get a real surveyor to vet the boat. But if you can't put it in the water to evaluate the engine walk away. I had a mechanic check a gas automic on the hard. He had a battery jump starter and put the intake hose in a bucket of water. Just don't let bucket run out of water.
