I'm inclined to think that moisture gets anywhere..EVERYWHERE on a sailboat. Even the snap-wrapped, cloth boots will get wet, I would think. Do they really drain/dry completely? I'm asking questions because on my newly acquired 2-25 (25-2?) , the spreader has some tape and I want to rectify that. I'm re-sealing all deck hardware, chainplates, sheet tracks...might as well climb and do spreader tips also! :-) thanks. ..tom On 11/20/15, r good my… [at] hotmail.com [Cal_Boats]<Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: I would be reluctant to use this taping method. You are right, water will go anywhere and trapping it will ruin any metal. The cloth imho lets the water migrate – which I think is a good thing. It didn't seem to hurt anything. The metal strap is either stainless steel or bronze but more importantly it didn't hurt the wood. I would be more worried about the cloth holding in water so it needs to be something that won't hold water.
