Over-confident in my Cal 25-2?

...or not smart enough to know better. But i'm learning! Today, Monterey Bay, rain, low 60's all day. I've had the boat about 2 months. The wind was blowing an indicated 18kts. My hull speed is about 6.4 or something like that. I was showing an indicated 7.4 kts at one point. I was single-hand and could not reef the main safely but i did nose her back in and drop the jib a couple times because i felt that i had too much sail up. Actually, i furled and unfurled several times..for the practice. I'm still adrenalized by it and a little tired. Just wanted to share. ...tom

Congrats, Tom. You are back in one piece and you didn't bust the boat. I call that success. Pretty soon this will feel like normal ops (not that you should ever get complacent with Mother Nature). M'thinks you want to set up a way to single hand reef that main for safety sake. Thank you. Its my first sailboat. I bought some books and between that, some googling and water-time, i'm getting there. I agree that i need a single-hand reef process. I'll figure it out in the slip though. I was also wondering about what it would take to knock down the mast. Its just mounted to the deck, i think. I'll go put again tomorrow or next. ...tom > On Dec 22, 2015, at 6:46 PM, 'Charlie Husar' hu… [at] gmail.com [Cal_Boats] <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: > > Congrats, Tom.
