SC harbor, tsunami past

Tom, it really depends on not only the time of the tides but the height of any given tide. Many of the docks and fastenings have been nicely tepaired. Ex Indigo is on m dock, crows nest side. We will be doing races for fun with the Tuesday night catalina friends. Then after we catch a dinner deal at the CN. Wednesday night races are SC yacht club sponsored but we could go then. They also load up extras if you have pfd and boat shoes. Only race series are on this time of year. I'm going to get new tide books right now, our poweris off till 730. And check out the channel. would love to see your boat and join for a sail. The dredging is sort of continual, (my father said it would always be that way, plus mess up Capitola's beach when they opened up the lake). Ps, surfing there has been illegal for years. Hi, went down last evening after getting tidebooks to check it out, it was dark , the water was almost flat outside the mouth, barring a few breakers on the jetty. It was a minus 0.9 at about 6PM. You could see the white foam all the way from the jetty to the far side of the beach to the east of the mouth. It was definitely a sand bar. Got a feeling it will be a while before they fix it. One year while I was part of a commercial fishing business with boat, we had to keep the boat clear up in Bodega Bay because of shoaling, and the harbor had the nerve to threaten to take away our paid slip because we weren't in it frequently enough. (couldn't get in if we wanted). So here I finally get my slip for which I was on list for years(the small size if I EVER wanted to get one) our 36 stays in Redwood City for now and we partnered to the cal 2-27. One plus to that, we could get out at high tide which would have been 6 feet at 10 45AM. and maybe come back near midnight with the 4'6 draft. We could see two fishing boats working outside the mouth west of the jetty. Timing will be everything. We should trip down to your docks. Are you getting big surges now? Maybe this sandbar is slowing down the santa cruz surge. Big surges? Hmm. Big swells on the beaches. Surfers are loving it. Out on the MRY Bay it’s not so bad although at one point on Sunday the horizon disappeared on me. : ) Higher swell with long periods. But as was pointed out, the harbor area here is so broad-mouthed, it’s easy to navigate. If you want to go out, come down. I would welcome the more experienced company. I’m at the Coast Guard pier, officially, Breakwater Marina. Easy to get to. And I can provide parking for guests. ..tom From: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com [mailto:Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 12, 2016 12:56 PM To: Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [Cal_Boats] SC harbor, tsunami past Hi, went down last evening after getting tidebooks to check it out, it was dark , the water was almost flat outside the mouth, barring a few breakers on the jetty. This is the surfing season on Lake Michigan, the crazies are out there when we get NE big time. The waves get pretty big, and in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana, they're out there. Indiana gets pretty big, the lake is only 30 feet deep there. That's why you see those pix of the pier lights covered in ice. You won't catch me out there. We're not happy this winter, too warm. No ice cover on the lake. We need that to keep evaporation to a minimum, which keeps our water levels up in summer. El Nino is at fault, "they" say.David Dobbs CAL29 411 On Tuesday, January 12, 2016 3:28 PM, "'TomDressler' tb… [at] verizon.net [Cal_Boats]" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: Big surges? Hmm. The historic recorded highs and lows on lakes Michigan/Huron have both occurred in my lifetime (lows in 1964; highs in 1986). Evey time the levels get extreme, we have all manner of theories about what we have done to cause it. And while we're arguing, the lakes do their thing and return to "normal," which is somewhere between high & low. David is right that the ice cover has a big effect because the evaporative losses can be huge in winter conditions--cold, dry air passing over relatively warm water picks up a lot of moisture and drops it ashore as snow. We just had a big lake-effect snow storm today. The weather folks had been touting it as this month;s storm of the century, but it wimped out (as usual) before depositing the predicted 11". In fact, the forecast was so scary that I drove to work instead of riding the winter bike in. All of this is much fun to observe. As a kid, I never paid attention to the seasonal changes in the sun's altitude or the connection between wind direction and weather. Now it's all very visible and meaningful. It's easy to see why that low, low sun would have scared the bejeezus out of early people. And when it's blowing from the SE, I wait for the bad stuff to arrive. Chris Campbell > > >

Chris,Just use your xc skis to work tomorrow. We had a wimpy snowfall, (where did that word come from?) Wimpy was a character in the Popeye cartoons who I loved. When I worked for AT&T Long Lines we got paid on Tuesday, so we figured Wimpy must have worked here too, he always said "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today". Who else ever got paid on Tuesday?David, CAL 29 411 On Tuesday, January 12, 2016 3:58 PM, "ccampbell cc… [at] lsnm.org [Cal_Boats]" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: On 1/12/2016 4:43 PM, david dobbs tm… [at] yahoo.com [Cal_Boats] wrote: This is the surfing season on Lake Michigan, the crazies are out there when we get NE big time.
