I think my only concern will be in our area of the Santa Barbara Channel, we get many days or afternoons with 15 to 20 knot winds that create 4 to 6ft swell, breaking surf, wind against current with steep faces. I just wonder if the engine and cockpit will get swamped. I am planning on a 2 stroke, but was wondering if you guys think a 4 stroke would be ok, found a good deal on one from a friend. Thanks for the info and thoughts. JoeCal 29 Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android I think the only time the outboard does not preform well is in a heavy seaway. If you are out and the wind pipes up 25-50, plan on sailing. you may be able to power up to 30, but the sea state will be the deciding factor. I knew you were going to ask about the height I cut mine. I dont know off hand, but I will check when I get a chance. It may be a week or so. ....@ Randy.....valid concerns. I would tend to stay w the inboard where you are. ...@ Joe.....I have not tried other outboards so I dont know how they would perform. I use the 9.9 High thrust (4 stoke) which has a more power gear ratio for heavier loads and a prop that seems to work better w heavy loads and gives better reverse power.
