Everything I've read here about the wind in my face, sailing into the wind
efficiently, dealing with maintenance, finding a good home, etc...is true
for me.
I'm on sailboat number three, work on her when I can, love her dearly, she
brings me joy and heartache, and to an agents eye she'd be a pile of shit.
But, she takes me to magical places when we're out alone on the water, and
when my mind can roam with the waves and the wind.
Boat owning and sailing is a unique life experience and some of us are
crazy enough to love it all...the good, the bad and the ugly.
How lucky are we that whether we're sailing an old fibreglass piece of junk
that we love, or a fifty foot new yacht that feeds our need for acquiring
beautiful things, we get to sail!
Like someone else said, I'll take this version of crazy any day!

blockquote, div.yahoo_quoted { margin-left: 0 !important; border-left:1px #715FFA solid !important; padding-left:1ex !important; background-color:white !important; } Yes well said. I do not mind working on my boat. I couldn't dream of it not returning to the water. It's like a boat rescue. I do feel crazy and I have an uphill battle for a little while. You can't count every dollar thinking you will get it back.

Well, maybe you do, but in different ways. We pay money to see movies or
attend concerts because we are paid back with pleasant experiences. We
pay money for restaurants because we are paid back with sustenance and
special pleasures of taste. We pay money for new clothes because they
make us feel cool. Some people pay money to play golf, but I've never
figured that one out.
And we pay for our boats so we can go sailing. There was a time when I
did not have a local sailboat. After work I'd contrive to get out
sailing, somehow, and not often successfully. I built a sea kayak and
paddled it most days after work. Then I got the Cal 20 and I can go out
sailing whenever I choose to. We get our money back.

Greets everyone!
Carolyn,,, well said! I feel the same way about my Cal 2-29! When I got into restoring Kool Beans, it would take a lot of resources and commitment, but the most reward and payback to me is that I have not only a "Good Old Boat", but a "Great Old Boat" that I feel extremely safe in, and to find and belong to an excellent boating group that provides awesome support and encouragement! I like it when people comment about how good it feels to them, to see someone restore an oldie, by goody!
It makes me appreciate the freedom to experience one of the greatest joys in life!
Sail On! Sail Safe!
