Grae,
I concur with Charley, if you have a vanity and shower in the head, you have 2-29 plain and simple. The standard 29 had a hanging locker actoss from the head.
There is also a 3-29, which has seating on both sides of the cabin, galley in the port guarter and only one quarter birth on the starboard side.

Hi, Grae. The statement below comes from the sailboat data web site. My Bangor Punta Cheat Sheet says over 600 29s were built and less than 400 2-29s were built. I think you have an East Coast sail number, so it could have been in the 400s even though less than 400 2-29s were built. Can explain this numbering scheme if needed.
"According to the CAL 29 brochure, the CAL 2-29 is a "special cruising version of the CAL 29...and includes, as standard equipment, a diesel engine, pressurized shower, pedestal steering, vanity with medicine chest, electric bilge pump, extra water tank and shore power system." So both the 29 and the 2-29 must have been built at the same time, though the first 2-29 must have been introduced somewhat later than the standard 29. Many thanks to David Burnham, CAL 2-29 owner, who solved this mystery and kindly offered his original brochures to prove the case."

ok, so when I bought Destiny a few years ago I was sold a Cal-29 and and given that she's dated at 1972 I've had no reason to doubt that thought, the only nag was the mainsail which had a C2-29 motif on it, which I figured was just a 2nd hand sail (the PO didn't know), but I was digging through the paperwork at the weekend and found the original bill of sale which states it as a 2-29 and sold in 1973 (the hin def says 72).
So the question is how do I tell, as far as I can see there was very little to distinguish the two - are there any tell tales?
Splashed this last weekend and had a lovely 15 knot sail in Raritan bay, hoping for good weather this coming weekend (unlikely) for the America's Cup in Manhattan.

Joe,
My 2-29 has a smaller tank located in front of a large tank under the V berth.

Good info. Does anyone know where the additional water tank is located in the 2-29?

Good question,,,, I think it is stock, but will check out the capacity when I go to the yard tomorrow. I have the galley setup on the starboard side (refrigerator, drawers, sink, two burner coleman gas stove (original)).

Jim, how big is the tank just before the quarter berth? Is it stock or custom? What is on the starboard side to offset the weight?
