Congradulations to Puffin and her crew!! Shpritz--- (the winningist Cal 24 derelict on the West Coast, frequently mistaken for the "Flying Dutchman" with her 54 year old mainsail with it's tattered numbers and insignia fluttering in the breeze, mistaken for tell tales installed in the wrong place, and it's multitude of fiberglas battens pop riveted and epoxied in place, in a vain attempted to smooth out the ghastly wrinkles, and horribly splintered teak gunnel) We came in last, this Sunday, but still copped a consolation prize of a bottle of BBQ sauce, which I didn't get, because we were busy tearing my work truck apart looking for my spiffy new VA walking cane, the awards were given, burgers eaten, and nearly everyone left. Turns out it the cane was still hanging on the counter of the YC office counter, where I left it when checking in and picking of my race instructions, hours before. The good news is it + the coral coating my bottom- must have helped my rating, since the month before we smoked everyone but a new Tartan 101, recieving a 120 PHRF rating for the next (this Sunday's) race. Moonraker a 1987 Cal 33-2 not only won in PHRF B on Wed night she was second in fleet, beating 2 PHRF a boats, a J 97 and a J 30. Its been great sailing up here on Wed and Friday night. Just sharing to other Cal owners. Our yacht club had our Spring Regatta on Saturday and Puffin took first place. Was a small race, but we beat out eight other boats.
