Stern deck to hull joint separating

Hello Cal boats, Wondering if anyone has advice on best way to repair the deck to hull joint at the stern. I found a crack across the connection yesterday, crawled inside after removing a ton of life jackets an line to see a dry rotted 1 x 6 across the connection. When I take that off am I going to want to fiberglass the joint? replace the board? Anyone know how they originally joined the wood an fiberglass? Thanks for any help you can give me. I have a crack across the top of the stern where the hull meets the cockpit. I installed a ladder in back and now installing a windvane which I'm sure had everything to do with this opening up. There is a 1" by 6" all across the back inside top that I now believe Jenson built in as a stiffener. If they had fiberglassed it in I would have no problem. They only fiberglassed onto the 1st couple inches of the board in my boat and moisture over the yrs has it separating. I'm working on taking it out and redoing it. If any of you have this compartment on your stern where you can look to see what's up there I'd be curious if anyone else has this issue . > On Jun 23, 2016, at 8:01 AM, Robert <hr… [at] yahoo.com> wrote: > > Hello Cal boats, > > Wondering if anyone has advice on best way to repair the deck to hull joint at the stern.
