Just thought I would share a photo of the new paint scheme. We did the prep work and the yard sprayed the paint. Enjoy Greg1979 Cal 39 Mk II

Thanks Reggie. Prep work was pretty much remove all the fittings, bow roller, ladder, etc. We filled the old exhaust and bilge pump thru hulls in the transom and moved them to the port side. Sand everything with 80 grit, fair any dings with 3M fairing compound and sand until smooth. Berkeley Marine Center (Berkeley, CA) sprayed the topsides with Awlcraft primer, we then sanded with 320 and they sprayed on the Medium Gray. I had them lay out the accent stripes as it is a skill I do not posses. Bottom paint is SeaHawk Tropicoat in black. My wife deserves all the credit for the sanding though. She spent about 50-60 hours sanding it all smooth. I am a fan of awlcraft. The paint is repairable and polishable and very hard. I sprayed it on the seat tanks and deck of a 505. The seat tanks took a lot of abuse and held up extremely well. Greg, Looks great! How about the deck and cabin? Did you already have those painted? Looks like your toe rail was replaced with aluminum. Was that at the same time as the deck paint? Mine sorely needs the hull deck joint resealed and the deck and cabin painted. I've had the bottom painted at Berkley MC a few years ago, but am thinking that maybe KKMI would be a good option for the deck paint. BMC is certainly more convenient, a long walk from my slip. Duane, We did the toe rails about 3 years ago, primarily because the old wood one leaked. It was by far the biggest improvement we've made. No leaks and a strong joint now. The deckhouse is done with perfection and kiwi grip but the decks themselves aren't done yet. Probably later this year. I like BMC because we can do our own work. At $100 per hour we can't afford to have them do anything that we can't do ourselves.
