Cal 33-2 internal boom reefing
je… [at] comcast.net2016-08-20 12:45 UTC
Does anyone have a diagram of the internal boom reefing setup on a 1987 Cal 33-3. I have one green line hanging out of the back of the boom and nothing but empty shivs at the front of the boom.

On my Cal 33-2 the reefing setup is quite simple, but may not be complete.
The aft reefing line exits the rear of the boom, loops through the reefing cringle in the sail and is then tied to an eyepad on the boom.
The line runs forward thru the boom, down to a block at the base of the mast and aft to a clutch by the cockpit. Works OK.
However, this setup does nothing for the reef point at the mast – still need to go to the mast to set the reef. Thus the cockpit reefing line seems a bit of overkill, but it is what it is.
Note that I am the third owner. Neither the previous owner not I know anything else / different about the original reefing arrangement.

I appear to have both a green line at the rear of the boom and a red one at the fount of the boom which some how got inside of the boom. I am going to fish this one out but not sure of the set up. I did put a reefing hook on the mast.

Google isomat boom reefing. It has a great diagram of the setup on my cal 33.
The key is an internal double pulley that has lines to the end of the boom, and a line forward, down to a deck pulley, then To a clutch in the cockpit.

Good information. By the way, if I try to set up my second reef point the blocks max out before I achieve a full reef. I leave the reef line unattached at the rear of the boom and attach it when shifting from the first reef to the second. Hope that makes sense.
