Darr. 60? OMG!! Soooo young!! There are internet sailing sites that offer crew ads, and, there's crew lists on yacht clubs. Here at Marina del Rey there's an every other Sunday sailing sailing club, which used to be a Singles Sailing Club. You could have a bevy of young tender sweeties sailing with you. Wooohooo!! Go for it. I'm two months shy of 70, me back hurts like hell (I just sat down with the neurosurgery folks. They looked at my lower spine, and just shook their heads. Uggh. And suggested more physical therapy. They said it was good I was active--sailing and swimming) There are guys that sail until they die. Late 80's. 90's! Sail on, sailor. I am considering selling my wonderful vessel, Alcyone II. I put a lot of my life into her. She is a 1986 Cal 33-2. Has just about everything on her. Bronze seacocks, radar, GPS, new instruments in 2005, new running and standing rigging 2009, installed air conditioner, electric windlass, 35 pound CQR, Fortress, 35 and 55 anchors. Hard dodger top, with fully enclosed cockpit canvas. I have had some health changes, approaching 60, and cannot get my sons interested in sailing and passing her on to them. I have sailed her all over and she is very sturdy. I am considering donating her to the Boy Scouts, or selling her to someone who wants a really great boat. Not looking to make any profit on her. Not even sure what to ask. Looks like NADA says $25,000 is as good as I can go. I bought her in 1999 for $50,000. Probably put $30,000 into up grades and stuff. I used to put my life in to maintaining and upgrading her. But time has come to find her a good home. She is berthed in Annapolis, MD. Any ideas how to deal with the emotions about this? and anyone who might be interested? Put 27 years in Special Operations and have never felt emotions like this, except about my sons. Thanks, Darr LaFon
