Your boat must have been modified at some point, I have a copy of a magazine ad showing the interior of the CAL 33, but that "grab bat" doesn't attach to the ceiling in the photo. It appears to fit between the cabin sole and the overhead. I really can't see how it could be attached to the ceiling, since that would block access to the table from one side or the other, running horizontally, Even if angled it would still seem to be in the way. I'd suggest installing the vertical pole as it was originally, running up to the overhead from the sole, not try to make the pole attach to the ceiling. Having it stand vertical at the aft end of the table makes more sense and will be much easier. I see no advantage, but plenty of disadvantages to running it to the ceiling. When I bought my boat the table was removed. I want to put it back but I dont have any hardware for the top, plan bar only. I see the bottom is self explanatory. Thanks in advance! Stickler, guilty as charged....... but maybe I also have a little fun with my "confusion". I too knew he meant overhead, but....... proper terminology is important if one wants to get the correct advice too......... ask any of my friends about my version of football terms! As I see it, "1st Down" is the first time the ball hits the ground, second Down is the 2nd time, etc <GRIN!!> Rod J. I'm still mystified as to why you are attaching this pole to the ceiling......... I would think that it makes MUCH more sense to attach it to the overhead. attaching it to the ceiling will mean running the pole horizontally instead of vertically. A vertical pole is what was originally used from the factory, what is the purpose of changing to a horizontal pole in order to attach to the ceiling??
