Hi, Mike, good to hear from you. Hope you and yours are well. I'm puzzled, why is a big cockpit for a shower a disadvantage. I guess you could rig up a cheapo plastic painting drop cloth as a tarp for privacy, and, BTW, are all you all referring to a black solar shower bag when you talk cockpit showers?
I've never used one but I understand they work pretty well.
BTW I discovered today Annapolis Performance Sailing ??? is having a catalogue wide 15% sale to celebrate the Annapolis Boat Show till October 10th.(no, I sure don't work for them). I'm going to pick up some new pole ends form my pool brush pole style whisker poles. They have a twist lock similar to the expensive Forespar models, and I use a one inch hose clam with a plastic thumb twist handle, available at most auto parts suppliers, as reinforcement against collapsing. BTW, I think I may replace the original pole's twist lock with Forespar replacements while I'm at it.
I'd like to pick up some light weight jib sheets, maybe even main sheets too?. My Sta-Sets are fine but tend to tangle at the blocks and get heavy and water logged when wet. I'm thinking single braid, and something that doesn't absorb water. Any suggestions. Again APC seems to carry every type of sailing rope (yes, rope, it's what it's called before being cut and installed on a vessel) available. Anyone using "Salsa" braid? Anything else that won't break the bank? I usually go for a 3/8ths line since I usually hand winch the jib and I need something large enough to grab. I think my Sta-set is a hair larger than that, 7/16"? I could use a 5/16" but wouldn't that be harder to hand grip?
Best, Jerry of "Shpritz".
The Cal 40 drained under the beam. Cockpit shower
is a good idea unless it’s a big boat.

Hey Cal owners,
Are there any other
cal-2 30 owners or any other cal boat that would apply who
know where or how to get water past steel beam? It almost
seems like that area is the bottom of my boat. I have heard,
an have boat envy, for those that have a little shower in
that location saying it drains to bilge. Before I start
drilling exploratory holes while I sit at the docks I would
sure appreciate some help.

Hi Mike, there is a video online of a cal-2 30 that has a little circle curtain in that area an I was thinking I'd use my solar shower when out on the water. But at the dock it would be nice to be inside an have a little privacy. I am going to try sliding something flat up thru that area an see if I can reach to under the v berth. If yours drains thru under the beam mine should too. Thanks for your help.
